Another type of rotary table used for small to medium-sized fabrication projects are the worm and screw rotary tables. They differ from their vertical and horizontal counterparts because their axis of rotation does not change when the material being machined rotates. Instead, the worm component moves perpendicular to the shaft, creating a natural counterbalance to prevent slipping.
Other advantages include smaller cost for the machine, which can reduce the overall cost of a machine. This is particularly important for smaller machining operations where fast production is key. Additionally, the accuracy of a rotary table can be increased through the use of an indexer. An indexer is a device that is attached to a table and helps to precisely machine the workpiece while reducing errors caused by inaccurate rotation of the table’s axis of rotation.
