Newer models of palletizing systems utilize hollow glass as a cavity instead of plastic. The advantages of using hollow glass are that it does not require a motor or belt to move the material and it allows for greater design flexibility. Some additional modules, such as those that function as suction plates or grinding wheels, can also be replaced easily if broken. However, some people prefer to purchase their own custom-built machinery because they are able to fine tune the functions to better match their specific needs. For instance, some industries require their machines to be able to handle high loads of weight without breaking down. In this case, it would be necessary to find additional modules that incorporate both high strength and the ability to work under heavy pressure.
Many suppliers of palletizing systems also offer a full range of pails that can be customized to incorporate different types of packaging media. Some manufacturers choose to only sell pails capable of handling certain types of goods because they can be more efficient than purchasing pails that can handle a wider variety. Another reason manufacturers may choose to purchase universal pails is because universal design pails have been designed to work with most types of packaging media, which can significantly reduce the amount of customization required for each individual machine.
Aside from purchasing the appropriate pails, the type of packaging being used to package products also contributes to the efficiency of the system. Different packaging media require different operating methods in order to properly seal the product and prevent moisture from seeping in. When a company uses a manual palletizing system, one of the biggest factors in preventing moisture entry is the speed in which the machine spins. Fast rotating machines tend to suck up excess moisture out of the air faster than slow rotation ones. In addition, manual palletizers may require the user to manually control the size of the holes in the walls of the packaging media in order to prevent dirt and water from reaching the product. However, since automated palletizing systems can quickly adjust to the varying conditions of the shipping medium, manual control of the size of the holes in the wall is not necessary.
