High Accuracy With Low Wear and Tear
One of the most important factors in manufacturing is accuracy and speed. This is the reason why high precision and fast speeds are essential for many industries and some tools like Direct Drive Rotary Table demand this precision and speed. As a result, many companies have invested in the research and development of new and improved technology. This leads to advanced designs, which are more precise than ever, as well as faster speeds.
Such advances have paved the way for more accurate machining operations that are both faster and more reliable than before. The main factor that contributes to this is zero backlash operations. Zero backlash (ZOR) operation is a state where the cutting tools move in the material without contacting it at any point along the process. In other words, there is no backstop or bow in the material being cut. ZOR products are ideal for machine shop use where there are high machining speeds and the product must be made with precision. For heavy applications where even lubrication is required to eliminate clogging and rusting, a Direct Drive Rotary Table is the perfect tool.
Another advantage of using direct drive rotary tables is their relative ease of setup compared to some of the other options available. The standard options include either direct drive or gear-driven motors that require manual shifts to get the desired cutting position. Another convenient option is the zero backlash table where the miter slot is held in the middle of the slot and the gear shift occurs automatically when the appropriate angle is reached. Several other zero backlash tables are available, depending on the applications.
Because there are few moving parts, direct drive rotary tables are much less likely to engage in catastrophic damage during operation. While this is true, they are also much more likely to engage in damage that does not immediately show up. Since the gear shift moves on an axial position, any slippage can result in a domino effect that causes many pieces to fly off and severely damage surrounding equipment or structures nearby. Because zero-backlash gear-driven rotary tables are much easier to maintain than some of their counterparts, there is a long life span between replacement parts. While a direct drive rotary table is typically less expensive than a comparable brand name alternative, a reliable option still costs more than traditional table options.
While some industrial customers require zero backlash operation at high speeds, direct drive rotary tables are ideal for precision work where low speed movements produce high accuracy results. These types of equipment are often used for fine finishing operations where high accuracy is important. Precision machining is also often required for making precision components and in some cases, it makes sense to purchase the most accurate equipment possible to ensure proper performance.
For consumers, the benefits of gear-driven rotary tables far outweigh the higher cost. With standard ball bearings replacing teeth, there is virtually no slippage which is a common occurrence with standard ball bearings. Because there are no roller shafts to deal with, the only thing that moves is the ball. This leads to high accuracy with low wear and tear. In addition, it allows for quick changes in speed which makes it very efficient for applications where precise, high speed operation is required. The additional accuracy provided by gear-driven rotary tables makes them ideal for high quality precision applications that are difficult to operate with standard ball bearing designs.
